As China’s economy continues to play a pivotal role globally, understanding its complexities becomes increasingly crucial. The Chinese University of Hong Kong- University of California, San Diego Joint Laboratory on Chinese Economy aims to overcome obstacles in researching China’s institutions, data limitations, and the gap between academia and policy.

We host academic and policy events, publish working papers, engage with media, and cultivate young talent through postgraduate programs and exchanges. Leveraging faculty strengths from both universities, our research focuses on economic history and development, government-business relations, and the intersection of institutions with science and technology. We are eager to share our findings and contribute to advancing knowledge in these critical areas.
